Film Clips: Romantic Comedies

Who doesn't love a good romantic comedy? Seriously. Whenever I'm feeling tired or sad, I turn on a favorite rom com or TV show (hi, Gossip Girl), make some tea and paint my nails. Sometimes, these mini movie sessions are just what the doctor ordered- amazing for unwinding and helpful for letting go of the day's stress. Here are my some of my favorite pics:

Roman Holiday (1953)
My all time favorite movie, starring Audrey Hepburn  and Gregory Peck. Hepburn plays a sheltered and restless Princess Anna visiting Italy who longs for adventure and finds it in a dispatched American reporter Joe Bradley (played by Peck). But little does Anna know that Joe Bradley is assigned to write a story about her escapades. However, before the story is released Joe realizes that all the time he spent with Anna might mean something more than just a headline.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) and Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) meet after graduating from the University of Chicago. At first, they can't stand each other, but after spending extensive time driving to New York together after the graduation ceremony, they become close friends. Eventually, they realize their friendship might be something more and explore the concept of female/male friendships.

  Harold and Maude (1971)
This may be the most strange and dark film on the list, but it is wildly funny. Young Harold (Bud Cort) meets 79-year-old Maude (Ruth Gordon) at a funeral and fall in love. Meanwhile, Harold's mother sends him female suitors which he scares off in twisted, gruesome ways with the help of his much older girlfriend.

Clueless  (1995)
This hysterical movie based on Jane Austen's Emma stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher, a popular girl who loves making matches between her friends. While Cher seems spoiled and superficial at first, underneath her glossy exterior is wit, charm and genuine beauty.  Filled with make overs, "as if!" and an amazing white Alaia dress, Clueless is one of my all time favorite girl's night movies.

You've Got Mail (1998)
Just writing about this movie makes me smile. It's a charming story of star-crossed lovers played by Meg Ryan (Kathleen Kelly) and Tom Hanks (Joe Fox) who own rival bookstores. While their dislike for each other increases in person, the two unknowingly message each other over the internet using screen names. A brilliant exploration of love and technology, You've Got Mail shows viewers the importance of love and honesty.

My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)
Michael (Dermot Mulroney) and Julianne (Julia Roberts) promised each other that they would get married if they were still single at age 30. Three weeks before Michael's birthday, Julianne finds out that he is engaged to someone else (Cameron Diaz) and realizes she truly loves him. With the help of her close friend George, Julianne hilariously attempts to break off the wedding.

About A Boy (2002)
Twelve year old Marcus Brewer (Nicholas Hoult) lives with his chronically depressed and strong minded single mother, Fiona Brewer (Toni Colette). Marcus tries to make his mother happy, despite it causing him unhappiness and is bullied at school because he sings and speaks to himself without realizing. Enter thirty-eight year old Will Freeman (Hugh Grant), an unmotivated bum who lives off the royalties of a song written by his late father, having never held a real job.  He comes across the idea that dating single moms "fulfills" his needs. However, everything changes when he meets Fiona and Marcus.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
In 1960s New Englang, a quirky young boy (Jared Hilman) and girl (Kara Hayward) fall in love. The two decide to run away together, causing mass panic throughout their small, slow moving town. The town mobilizes to find the couple, causing a fundamental change in the minds of citizens, which proves to be beneficial in the end.

Happy watching!
xoxo
